Mel B has denied reports claiming that she abandoned her children in order to elope to Las Vegas to wed producer Stephen Belafonte. A former employee for the Spice Girl, Tonia Lamere, has revealed that Phoenix-Chi, 8, and baby Angel Iris, then two-months-old, were left in her charge while Mel B went away to tie the knot. "One evening of baby-sitting turned into four days," Lamere was quoted by Star magazine as saying. "The child was sick, there was no nanny, and when Mel called, she never even asked about the baby." However, Melanie Brown’s rep said the allegations were untrue. "Melanie is a hands-on mother completely dedicated to the upbringing of her children and the well-being of her entire family," her manager said. "Any fictitious accusations to the contrary stem from greedy people looking to make a buck."

The singer claims she would never wed an abusive man, rejecting allegations about Belafonte had attacked his ex, common law wife Nicole Contreras.
